THINKING ABOUT GETTING INVOLVED - HERE IS A BIT ABOUT THE GROUP

Hastings Young Persons Council is a group that is run by young people for young people and has been going since 1998.

Our job is to speak up for what we want to see in our town.

So, we ask all adults that make plans for the future of Hastings & St Leonard's to ASK US before they take any final decisions.

After all, we will have to live with those decisions for longer than they will!

We will also be challenging organisations that don't ask us what we think of their plans!

Anyone can join - but you have to

If you want to have a look at this years youth councillors then see the YOUTH COUNCILLORS page. There, you'll see what we look like and what our interests are.

SEE LATEST NEWS page for how you can join in by becoming an ASSOCIATE MEMBER if becoming a youth councillor is not for you!

WHAT GOOD CAN WE DO?

Well...we are perhaps the only young people's group in Hastings that gets to meet with local councillors and other decision makers on a regular basis.

It's in our rules and constitution.

They have to listen to us and they have made a promise to listen to us and take notice of our ideas. (Find out more on the YOUTH FORUM PAGE)

Former Leader of Hastings Borough Council, Jeremy Birch (right) and former Chair of HYPC, Kelvin sign an agreement in January 2006 to work with us and consult us on big decisions they make in the town.
